A Taste of Music, A Dash of Dance:
Spice Up Your Early Childhood Environment with Music and Movement
Educators understand the importance of nurturing creativity in young children.
Problem solving, critical thinking, and approaching tasks in new ways are all vital skills for young children as they grow and develop. Picasso once said that all children are born artists. The trick is to remain an artist as we grow up. The rich art forms of dance and music have much to offer to inspire this creative spirit.
Connie and Zak will explore the worlds of music and dance and help to make them accessible and fun for children and the adults who guide them.
Keynote Presenters
Connie Dow
Connie Dow has been teaching movement for 35 years to children and
adults in public and private schools, studios and colleges. She graduated
from Denison University and then attended the University of Michigan
School of Music, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. In 2006, Connie’s book “Dance, Turn, Hop, Learn! Enriching Movement Activities for Preschoolers” was published by Redleaf Press. The book explores the many ways that educators can bring movement into the early childhood classroom. Connie has also
received the Ohio Department of Education Professional Development
accreditation for movement workshops for early childhood educators throughout Ohio.
Zak Morgan
If you cross Dr. Seuss with Shel Silverstein, toss in a smidgen of
a grade school educator, a G-rated stand-up comic and a folk
musician, you get GRAMMY®-nominated children’s artist Zak Morgan.
Zak graduated from Kenyon College and within 18 months of graduation
was performing more than 200 shows a year in schools, libraries and small
theaters. In 2003, Zak’s second record “When Bullfrogs Croak” was nominated
for a GRAMMY®—a rare feat for an independent release.
